Psycholistics©: What is Life Coaching?
![]() |
Although Life Coaching is a relatively new movement, the theoretical basis of Life Coaching is at least 30 years old. There are thought to be five human needs and these are: survival, love and belonging, power, fun and freedom. In Life Coaching then a ‘coach’ helps you the ‘client’ to identify goals and objectives and to stay on track in order to achieve those goals and satisfy all needs to the ultimate. How is this achieved? Life coaching is not psychotherapy, although it may employ certain principles taken from psychotherapy such as cognitive-behavioural therapy. This means looking at the connection between thought and behaviour. Life Coaching enables you to move from problem to problem solving, focussing on the what, the when and the how to solve the problem. Essentially it empowers those skills that shift the client from irresponsibility to responsibility, from ineffectiveness to efficiency, from negative addiction to positive and compelling life-enhancement. |
It means moving out of your comfort zone and overcoming ‘putting off’ or procrastination about sorting those things out in life that you have wanted to sort out for so long. The spotlight is not just on time-management but also self-management and emotional-management. You will be taught and learn skills of persistence: of how to ‘stick at it.’ Assertiveness is also one of those skills inherent in a Life Coaching course. Assertiveness is the ability to communicate what you want without aggression and with respect for others. Life Coaching also involves understanding how to risk-take in order how to get what you had never dreamed possible. You will be encouraged to make personal life changes not only through self-acceptance but also by identifying and making choices. Dissatisfaction with what we have now is the result of the inability to identify poor choices or even believing we are victims and that there are no choices at all. I have been in practice since 1997 and have produced a year-long course, intended to create powerful and lasting changes in your lifestyle. It is designed for distance study and is worked on in part at home over a period of 12 months requiring only monthly sessions with the Coach. Presented in 12 units the Psycholistics? Profile focuses on: communications, health and fitness, relationships and environment. A specially adapted version of the course has also been designed to create breakthrough strategies and assist company management development. Following the initial consultation, this individually tailored course can radically improve many aspects of your life. All that is required from the client is the agreement to complete all tasks and processes, which are rooted in your everyday life including: getting healthy, getting wealthy, cleaning-up, being heard and seen, healing and feeling good, solving problems, creating perfect relationships and being in charge. Tasks are organised into domains and a domain may not be entered until all agreed tasks from the preceding domain are completed. Each domain ideally takes one month to complete. Domain 1 Health - "get healthy"
Domain 3 Communications - "hear and be clear" Domain 4 Relationships - "improve and heal" Domain 7 Emotions - "happy ever after" Domain 8 Work - "make it work for YOU" Domain 9 Finances - "be in charge" Domain 10 Psychological Integrity - "the one and
only" Domain 11 Creativity - "be there, do that, write
the book" Domain 12 Spirituality - "the bigger picture"
